A Guide to Havana, Cuba
Lately everyone’s been asking me for recommendations for Cuba. A few years ago before Obama lifted the travel ban, I ventured into Cuba with my family and friends. We packed our bags full of school supplies and headed to Cuba to supply kids with much needed supplies for furthering their education. Pro tip: When going to any developing nations, it’s always nice to bring a few school supplies or something useful for children. It’s a low cost way of making the world a little bit better everyday. Anyway, I planned a jam packed week of fun things to do for my family and friends in Cuba, and here are my top 17 best things to do.
1. Explore Old Havana - see the old cars, listen to the music and sip a mojito as you wander through the city.
2. Stop by Havana Cathedral for a little bit of history and quiet time.
3. No trip to Havana would be complete without snapping a pic at Plaza de Revolucion with the giant installation of Che Guevara.
4. Stroll through Calle Obispo to pick up art and souvenirs for your loved ones.
5. Walk along the beach on El Malecon.
6. Make a reservation at the famous Buena Vista Social Club - pro tip: eat before you go…the food isn’t nearly as good as the music and dancing. But boy can I tell you, the dancing is INCREDIBLE.
7. Channel your inner Hemingway and eat at La Bodeguita del Medio.
8. Day time drinks? Hell yes - pop into Plaza Vieja for a quick drink.
9. See the Jose Marti monument while walking around the city
10. Stay at the Hotel Saratoga - Beyonce and Obama have both stayed here!!! So you already know it’s gorgeous with all star service. If you don’t want to shell out the coins for Saratoga, at least go to the roof and have a cocktail with the breathtaking views.
11. You can’t miss El Capitolio and you wouldn’t want to! Gotta get that epic Cuba pic!
12. Take a day trip to Viñales - you can see a full video itinerary here.
13. Take in the local art and culture in Fusterlandia
14. What’s a vacation without a little bit of history - stop by the Museo de la Revolucion for a brief look at Cuba’s history.
15. Take an old car tour in a 1950s buick - this is an absolute must in Cuba! You can easily haggle with people on the street, but if you want an in, message me in the comments and I’ll hook you up!
16. Stop by John Lennon park and take a picture with a statue of John on a park bench - there are even sunglasses to wear in your pics.
17. Walk around Plaza de San Francisco and get lost in the little side streets.
