12 Things To Consider Before Booking Your Next Vacation

Let’s be honest, we all miss travel. Especially right now with COVID-19 making it nearly impossible for anyone to even leave the house. Not only are our US passports banned from countless countries, but there’s an internal moral debate and just a little ounce of paranoia, when it comes to leaving the country and potentially infecting others or catching this virus. I’m of the group that believes that this just might be a good year to hunker down, some money, take a local staycation to the woods, and plan for 2021. I know not everyone wants to stay home, so if you’re planning a vacation to Croatia, Tanzania, or anywhere we’re allowed, I’ve compiled a list of 12 thing to consider before booking your 2020 vacation.

  1. We’re still in a pandemic. As much as I want to travel, I’m also very aware that I could be an asymptomatic carrier and infect people abroad or vice versa. Consider scheduling FAR in advance, maybe spring/summer 2021, so you have more time to see how everything pans out with Covid.

  2. You may have to quarantine upon arrival - that means 14 days in a hotel room.

  3. Daily temperature checks - each country has different regulations, but some may check your temperature often while you’re quarantining upon arrival. You can even request this from certain hotels.

  4. Research how the country has handled Covid - never hurts to know their policies and procedures.

  5. If you get sick are you prepared to recover in a foreign hospital? Because you may not be able to come back home. Check to see how their hospitals are.

  6. Get travelers insurance - hopefully nothing happens, but it’s always smart to be prepared.

  7. Check flight policies for cancellations, change fees, etc. Everything is up in the air right now, so you may need to change your flight, cancel or re-route.

  8. Hotel policies and updated protocols - do some research into where you’re staying and make sure they care about the safety of you and their staff.

  9. Be flexible and go with the flow - things may be closed in the country you choose to visit, so manage your expectations and enjoy your trip for what it is.

  10. Wash your hands! Silly to have to say, but just because you’re on a beach in Mexico doesn’t mean you don’t have to still wash your hands.

  11. Curfews - some countries are enforcing curfews so you may not be able to do some of the activities you’re used to.

  12. Keep it low key - no crowded concerts and parties. If you’re going to travel, keep it chill and enjoy some sights off the beaten path.
